Technology and Innovation In Teaching and Learning Chemistry
This is a good chance for me to upgrade and improve my knowledge and skill in ICT again. Throughout the lecture, I have my chance to refresh all those useful skill and tools that I have already learn long time ago. Beside, I also have my chance to get introduce to some new software and online resources which may help me in teaching.
We have learned all together nine software and tools. They are Blogspot, Prezi, Advanced Microsoft Office Powerpoint, Advanced Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Publisher, Powtoon, Windows Live Movie Maker, ChemSketch and webpage using weebly. Among the nine that we learned during the class sessions, I love the webpage session the most.
I appreciate the work that my friends has done for each learning session, they are really great teachers. Even some of this software I already used to it, but I still get explore to something new from my friends. Below, is the summarize of each of the software and tools that I have learned.
1) Blogspot
Blogspot is a simple tools for us to write and share our major writing material. we can put in photos, videos or any links to make it more attractive. We can also create page within our blog so that we can easily to separate our material into several categories.
2) Prezi
Prezi is an online free software/tools which help us make a great presentation slide. It is simple to use. After we finished setting up all the slide, we can make it become portable to show on some other computer. We can also purchase a pro license user account so that we can have the offline mode for this useful software.
3) Microsoft Office Powerpoint
Microsoft Powerpoint is also another offline software which help us to make a great presentation silde. This software also have the feature to publish the slide into pdf, html and several format as well. It also can convert the slide into movie file. By setting up the timing and transition of the slide and also the animation in each slide, we can actually produce a simple animation or short movie.
4) Microsoft Office Excel
Microsoft Excel is a software that help us to due with simple data. This software give us a simple way to create table, do statistic calculation and also create several types of graph and chart. This software can be inter-link with some others Microsoft Office software such as Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Powerpoint to make it more convenient for use. Now, the google also have the google spreadsheet which are almost similar to Microsoft Office Excel. With the feature of the google form and Microsoft Office Excel, we can perform the online survey and get the analysis data within a short time.
5) Microsoft Office Publisher
Microsoft Office Publisher is also another useful element within the Microsoft Office software package. This software help us create flyers, booklet, name card and etc. We can either select the template within the software or we can design ourself. After we finished create what we want, and feel satisfy with it, we just need to print it out and fold or cut according to the line, then the job is done.
6) Powtoon
Powtoon is an online tools to help us create slide or animated video presentation. It is fully online tools, which means we can online use it through online method. This tools also have several license for us to choose, if we are using the free license it has limited usage on the feature, but it is enough for a teacher to use it for school teaching.
7) Windows Live Movie Maker
Windows Live Movie Maker is a simple software will come with Windows Live Essential. We can use it to create movie from photo or video file. We are also allowed to insert music file in several format such as mp3 to make the background music. It has just fews slide transition that avaiable for use, but is sufficient to make an movie. Although it is not as advance as other movie creator software, but if we combine it with Microsoft Office Powerpoint, we have more option to create an interesting movie.
8) ChemSketch
Chemsketch is a new things for me, but with some basic knowledge on 3D drawing in autocad, I find that it is actually quite simple to learn. This useful software is a tools for us to draw chemical structure either in 2D or 3D mode. Beside this, it is also allowed us to draw others picture which are related to chemistry such as apparatus and so on. This software is one of the most useful chemical's drawing software that available online through free download.
9) Webpage(Weebly.com)
Creating webpage is the skill that we should learn and teach our students. It is one of the most useful tools in 21st century. Weebly provide us a free domain which allowed us to create our own webpage without paying any fees. It is easy to use, most of the things is just need the click and drag. In default it also has the mobile mode which give user to access our webpage through their smart phone. Mobile mode and full webpage has different set of theme, so we can make it more suitable and simple when it is in mobile mode.
Beside this 9 softwares, I also have get introduced to Mendeley and Cam Studio. Mendeley is a free software to help us deal with pdf file. The main usage of it is to help user to make citation or do rearrangement for journal, artilce, books and others research needs writing reference material. While Cam Studio is a simple software to help us capture the computer desktop activities. It is good as a tool to help in doing presentation.
All the knowledge I have learn within this course is really useful, I will share whatever I have learn to others, so that it may help others to improve and get better.
